Thai motorway network

Highways in Thailand either Thang Luang Phiset ( ทางหลวง พิเศษ, in English "Motorways " ) called, if they are built at ground level, or Thang Phiset ( ทางพิเศษ; " Expressways ") if they are designed as a high street (mainly in the Greater Bangkok). The highways are mostly toll roads. In general, a speed limit of 120 km / h

The first motorway was opened in Thailand in 1981, it was the urban motorway Chaloem Maha Nakhon Expressway.

Highways with green signs are toll free, with blue signs are toll roads.

The highways in Thailand are not to be confused with the often also designated as such multi-lane roads ( so-called highways ), but do not meet the criteria for highways crossing the absence of freedom and restriction of vehicle types. This multi-lane highways are created along the lines of the usual UK Dual Carriageway.

The highways are not numbered independently but under the general numbering for rural roads in Thailand.
