The Bitmap Brothers

The Bitmap Brothers was a development studio for computer games in the UK. It was founded in 1987. The development studio programmed several games for the Atari ST and the Amiga and was one of the most successful developers for these platforms. Her later PC games could not reach the sales of their previous works.

The Bitmap Brothers were based in London. The managing director of the company was Mike Montgomery, who founded it along with Eric Matthews and Steve Kelly.

The computer graphic artist Mark John Coleman often worked for the Bitmap Brothers. He was responsible along with Dan Malone for the typical graphic style of the Bitmap Brothers games.

Other members were John Phillips, Ed Bartlett and Jamie Barber.

History

The development studio in 1988 published its first game, the shoot 'em up xenon. Shortly afterwards followed the classic Speedball. Before the development studio his self-published games ( under Renegade Software ), early Bitmap Brothers titles were published by Image Works and Konami. Since 2002, the company released some interpretations of his most famous games for the Game Boy Advance and Pocket PC.

Mid-2003, the Bitmap Brothers game World War II was: Frontline Command of KOCH Media Strategy First and published. A Speedball Arena titled continuation of the Speedball series was announced for Christmas 2002. The project, however, was set even before the release. Between 2003 and 2006 there were no new releases or announcements of new games.

After years of silence announced a release on the official website of the company the game Speedball 2 - Tournament at. Kylotonn Entertainment developed the game finally and Frogster Interactive published it in fall 2007. However, the game failed to match the success of previous titles.

Heritage

Two members of the Bitmap Brothers - Mike Montgomery and John Phillips - founded in the new millennium, the company Tower Studios (along with the Sensible Software founder Jon Hare ). According to the website of the new company their work ended at Bitmap Brothers 2004. 2011 was the game Speedball 2 Evolution released by Tower Studios for the App Store from Apple.
