Manifestation

The three coupled-out singles from it, My Favourite Game, Erase / Rewind and Hanging Around, were quite successful in the UK Singles Chart - Erase / Rewind even made it into the Top 10, the album title was apparently intended as a reminiscence of the console game Gran Turismo; the title of My Favourite Game was used as a remix in the second version of the game as the background music of a bonus or intro videos.

With Tom Jones they took in 1999 for his album Reload the cover version of Burning Down The House on which reached the top ten in the UK.

Reorientation

After the release of Gran Turismo and the following grueling, worldwide tours, the Cardigans were exhausted. And at the time was not clear whether and how it would go with the cardigans. The band members concentrated on solo projects: Svensson wrote songs for Titiyo and worked with Joakim Berg on the project Paus. Sveningsson published under the name Righteous Boy his solo album, and Nina Persson tinkered with friends on the project A Camp.

New beginning

A joint meeting in a hotel room in Los Angeles initiated the turn. In 2003 she finished her break and released the album Long Gone Before Daylight atmospheric. Hailed by critics, but it failed to match the success of the previous album. Of the two coupled- singles only managed For What It's Worth in the top 40 of the UK charts - You're The Storm flopped, however.

Trivia

Due to the musical preferences of some members of the Cardigans, the band played songs of Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne at their concerts again and again especially in the early years. Some of them also found space on the early CDs of the band:

  • Iron Man ( First Band on the Moon, 1996)
  • Iron Man ( first try, 1996) ( The Other Side of the Moon, 1998)
  • Mr. Crowley ( Performed live & acapella in Swedish radio 1995) ( The Other Side of the Moon, 1998)
  • Sabbath Bloody Sabbath ( Emmerdale, 1994 & Life, 1995)

The remarkable thing is that all the cover sound on one side by the Cardigans, on the other side but are still recognizable as Black Sabbath songs. Similarly, the Cardigans played the B-side of their single For What It's Worth a 2003 power plant - piece The model with German text.

In early 2004 appeared the album Tribute to the Cardigans, on the eleven European groups have grossed the band's hits. In the 32th episode of season 7 in the TV soap Beverly Hills, 90210 they also had a guest appearance.
