The Devil 's Point ( Eng.: " Devil's Peak ", gäl.: Bod on Deamhain " The penis of the devil" ) is a 1004 m high mountain in the Cairngorms, a mountain massif of the Scottish Highlands. It belongs to the category of the Munros. The name Devil 's Point is a false Anglifizierung of the Gaelic Bod at Deamhain. The story according to, for whose authenticity can not find any clear evidence, the English name was on a hike of Queen Victoria in the Cairngorms. When she saw the mountain and its local mountain guide ( partly in Scotland called Ghillie ) John Brown after the name of the mountain asked, he answered sheepishly with "Devil 's Point " to avoid an embarrassing situation.

Geography

The Devil 's Point is above the fledgling River Dee in the western part of the Cairngorm plateau, representing the highest point on the northerly Braeriach. He is like most mountains of the Massif mainly of granite. A striking feature is the east face of the mountain, while not vertical, but mostly rocky steep around 650 meters above the valley floor of the valley of Glen Dee rises.

Ascent

The mountain is technically easy to climb but connected from all directions only with a long walk. The fastest option is available from the south over the Dee Valley with car to the end of the road at the waterfall Lin of Dee above the village Inverey. Here starts a wider dirt road to the White Bridge, on the right a footpath branches off and follows the course of the Dee. The path splits at a bridge near the Corrour Bothy bivouac again - the publicly accessible bivouac can be used as an overnight opportunity for upward mobility. At the bivouac by the path rises becoming steeper at the northeastern edge of the Devil 's Point and leads to the plateau of the western Cairgorm Plateau, can be from where the summit reached quickly. Another path leads from the north to the mountain, crossing successively Braeriach, SGOR an Lochain Uaine and Cairn Toul but it is much longer and can be split to 2 days. This is best done one night at the aforementioned bivouac.
