The Emperor Waltz

I Kiss Your Hand, Madame, also known as Emperor Waltz ( Original: The Emperor Waltz ), is an American film musical by Billy Wilder from 1948.

Action

The American Virgil Smith comes into the Vienna Imperial and Royal Monarchy, there to sell his gramophones. He wants to Emperor Franz Joseph I move to be help him. The guards of the emperor keep his gramophone for an infernal machine and throw him out. By chance, he meets the Countess Johanna von Stolzenberg - Stolzenberg, who was just the Emperor, so her bitch Sherazade gives the Imperial Poodle offspring. Initially Snood Virgil dog buttons and Joan purebred poodle to each other and of course after a few tangles even pet owners fall in love. The Emperor is not amused about it, and certainly not as Sherazades descendants look a little different than expected.

Background

The film was shot in Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. Billy Wilder was later no longer fond of this film. Basically he hated Musical movies, because there would be sung unmotivated in his opinion. In the course of his future career, he never turned back a movie in this style. When he Irma La Douce filmed the musical, he threw out all the songs.

Awards

The film was twice nominated for an Oscar - in the categories "Best Costumes in a color film" and " Best Original Score ". Wilder and Brackett were nominated for their screenplay also for a price of the Writers Guild of America.
