The Knife

The Knife is a musical duo from Gothenburg, Sweden, consisting of siblings Karin Dreijer both Andersson and Olof Dreijer, who also run their own record company ( Rabid Records). Their music can be described as a mix of electro, techno and avant-garde. They became known in Germany mainly by the club hit Pass This On.

History

One feature that distinguishes The Knife of many other bands is their unwillingness to cooperate with the media and the mainstream music scene. The group rarely seen in public, most of their promotional photos show members with masks. For a long time they did not give live concerts.

The Knife won the Swedish music prize Grammis - a Swedish counterpart to the Grammy Awards - for Best Pop Group of the Year 2003, but they boycotted the ceremony by the two representatives of another group of artists as gorillas dressed up with the number 50 on the costume event sent. This was intended as a protest against male dominance within the music industry. Their album Deep Cuts was also nominated for a Grammis, as the best record of the year 2003, but the award went to the Cardigans.

José González coverte in his 2003's album Veneer the song Heartbeats by The Knife. This cover song was the end of 2005 used in the Color -Like -No- Other- Advertising by Sony, what The Knife helped to greater awareness. In January 2007 the band won six Grammis.

The single You Take My Breath Away was created in collaboration with the Swedish singer Jenny Wilson and is based on the classic Berlin Take My Breath Away from the year 1986.

2014, the band for the album Shaking the Habitual with the Nordic Music Prize was awarded.
