The Middle (TV series)

The Middle is an American sitcom that has been produced since 2009 by Warner Bros. Television and broadcast on U.S. television network ABC. The idea for the series had DeAnn Heline and Eileen Heisler. The German broadcast rights are at ZDFneo where the broadcast of the first three seasons took place from March 1, 2012 to August 2, 2012.

Action

The focus of the series is the mid-sized family Heck, who lives in the fictional town of Orson, Indiana, United States. The story is told from the mother Frankie rear sight that works as little successful car saleswoman. Her husband Mike Heck is a manager of a quarry. They have three children, Axl, Sue and Brick. Axl, the elder son, is a rebellious teenager. Sue, the daughter fails consistently despite their numerous attempts to be included in school activities. The younger son, Brick, is very intelligent, but has problems with social contacts.

Production and broadcasting

Both the exterior and the interior shots of the series was filmed in the studios of Warner Bros. in Burbank, California. The television series is produced by Warner Bros. and Blackie and Blondie Productions.

ABC first ordered only thirteen episodes, and added them to the schedule to 2009-2010. The series received on 8 October 2009, a full season with 22 episodes. On 12 January 2010 ABC ordered a second season of The Middle.

While the extension of a third season in January 2011 was, ABC announced in May 2012, the production of a fourth season known whose charisma was on display from 26 September 2012 until 22 May 2013. The fifth season will be shown since September 25, 2013 on ABC.

In the fall of 2011, the public digital transmitter ZDFneo secured the German broadcast rights and showed the first two seasons from 1 March to 7 May 2012. Season three was shown there from July 17 to August 2, 2012. The broadcast of the fourth season took place from May 15 to July 30, 2013 also on ZDFneo.

Since January 2, 2013 ORF shows one the series.

Reception

The series has received mostly positive reviews in the United States. On Metacritic, a collective portal for reviews, given the series a Metascore of 71 /100. The series is praised for its realistic view of the middle class, for example, writes Robert Bianco of USA Today:
