The One That Got Away is a song by American pop singer Katy Perry. The piece was the sixth single from Perry's third studio album Teenage Dream. The song was written by Perry, Dr. Luke and Max Martin and produced by the latter two.
The song is a pop ballad about a lost love, written in E major and 138 bpm has. Perry's voice ranges from G ♯ 3 to D ♯ 5 The song follows the chord progression E -g ♯ -c ♯ -A.
Background
Capitol Records confirmed on 13 September 2011 compared with the Billboard magazine that The One That Got Away would be the sixth single Perry. The decision arose from Perry's fondness for the song, because it has, in their opinion, a catchy hook and could be a great success in the pop radios. The record company sent The One That Got Away 28 September 2011 to all mainstream radio stations.
Perry said in a statement the label:
"I'm so glad we " declared The One That Got Away " to my sixth single because this song shows a very different side of me that I have not shown with the previous singles this record. I think everyone can identify with this song. I wrote about the consequences that happen when someone promises to stay together with him forever, but one is not able to at the end. It is a bittersweet story. "
Remix versions
An official remix version of the song with the U.S. rapper BoB was released in December 2011 in the United States. Katy Perry has a remix version released for this reason, so The One That Got Away is even more popular and thus their sixth number-one hits from one album. Thus, they would overtake Michael Jackson and record holder. Perry's plan to release a remix version of the song and to reduce the selling price of the song, so that it reaches number one on the hit parade, was heavily criticized. Perrys Hits E.T. with Kanye West and Last Friday Night ( TGIF ) with Missy Elliott reached the top of both charts also only after the remix versions were published. The Billboard magazine now wants to make changes to the chart rules; Price cuts and remix versions should no longer affect the success of a song. Perry's method with remix versions and price reductions already made use of other artists such as Rihanna and Britney Spears, who thereby have been able to achieve numerous number-one hits.
Commercial success
In Australia, The One That Got Away debuted in the week ending October 10, 2011 at number 87 in New Zealand, the song reached number 12, where it was awarded a gold record. In the U.S., the song peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100
