The Road to Escondido is the title of a jointly published by JJ Cale and Eric Clapton on 7 November 2006 album. It was recorded and produced in California in August 2005. The first joint work of the two legends of blues and rock music reached the top ten of the album charts in Germany. The album is primarily dedicated to Billy Preston, as it was the last work and publication before his death.
Prehistory
For over 40 years, Clapton and Cale are already making music. Cale has however - primarily made as a songwriter has a name - as opposed to Clapton. So some of the biggest Clapton hits like Cocaine or After Midnight come from the pen of JJ Cale. Clapton's admiration for Cale prompted him, to persuade his longtime companion during the three-day Crossroads Guitar Festival 2004, which also includes Cale was invited to a joint album.
This connection of the two music stars is reflected in their joint album. So Cale wrote eleven of the fourteen pieces.
Sound and style
The album has according to the number of the participating musicians no unique style of music and is not unique zuzuordenen a musical direction. It is neither blues, folk, country or rock, but a mixture of these styles and a variety of other influences.
Unmistakable, however, is the characteristic sound of JJ Cale, which was also the clear desire Clapton.
