Fish & Chips ( The Van ) is a British comedy film directed by Stephen Frears from the year 1996. It is the film adaptation of the third part of the novel series Barrytown Trilogy by Roddy Doyle.

Action

Brendan Reeves ( ' Bimbo ' ) lives in Barrytown. When he is released, open Bimbo and his friend Larry, a mobile snack bar where they sell fish and chips. After initial successes increasingly causing tension between the two friends. Finally, Bimbo, which is formally owner of the snack bar, Larry begins a fixed wage to pay instead of a profit-sharing. The Mad Larry comes out in a union. After even a representative of the Health Department threatens to close the snack bar, escalated the confrontation to an open quarrel.

During the reconciliation in the pub the drunken Bimbo, the thing decides to put an end to save their friendship. At the end of Bimbo and Larry control the mobile snack bar into the sea.

Reviews

James Berardinelli described the action on ReelViews as simple, the first film half as committed. He wrote that it would be a film about the friendship of two men and about the benefits of self-respect. Berardinelli praised highly the presentation by Colm Meaney.

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun - Times 27 June 1997, the comedy of the film would spring from the close observation of the characters.

Daniel Hermsdorf described the action on www.schnitt.de easy. He praised highly the staging, the charming representation of Colm Meaney and the film music of Eric Clapton.
