Thomas Böttger

Thomas Böttger ( born August 15, 1957 in Neustrelitz ) is a German composer, pianist and music journalist.

Life

Boettger was born in Neustrelitz 1957. In 1964 he won first piano lessons; at nine he composed the first pieces. From 1969 to 1975 he attended the High School of Music in Berlin. Then he studied until 1980 composition with Erhard Ragwitz and piano with Ruth Zechlin at the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" Berlin. There followed a two -year postgraduate course at Tadeusz Baird at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. He was, from 1981 to 1983 master student of Ruth Zechlin at the Academy of Arts in Berlin.

In 1986 he moved to Hamburg. From 1989 to 1990 he held a lectureship at the Musikhochschule Lübeck. Since 1997 he works for the NDR. He was responsible for several hundred piano historical programs in recent years. As a pianist he played among others in Finland, Hungary and Italy. As early as 1983 his 5 Rilke songs were premiered at the Warsaw Autumn Festival. Musicians such as Miklós Perényi, John-Edward Kelly and Michael Massong could be won for his compositions. In 2005 he published a book about the pianist Tamás Vásáry. He served as a juror at the piano competition Sviatoslav Richter in Moscow.
