Thomas Essomba

Thomas Essomba (born 2 December 1987) is a Cameroonian amateur boxer, two-time African champions and participants of the 2008 Olympic Games. He fights in the light flyweight.

Career

His first international competition was the World Military Championships ( CISM ) in 2005 in Pretoria, where he was eliminated in the quarterfinals. He reached the same result in the same year at the African Championships in Casablanca. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in the following year he left in the first fight against the Pakistani Muhammad Nisar.

In the All Africa Games 2007 he lost only in the semi-final against the two-time African champions Suleiman Bilali. At the box world championships 2007 he took no part.

The first African Olympic Qualification tournament in 2008 in Algiers, he won the first fight against the South Africans Lebogang Pilane, but lost in the second against Manyo Plange. He got a second chance at the second African Olympic Qualification tournament in Windhoek and was able to use impressive. By his final victory against the Moroccans Redouane Bouchtouk he secured a qualification spot at the 2008 Olympics in light flyweight.
