Tilabéri is a department in the same Tilabéri region in Niger.

Geography

The Department is located in the southwest of the country, bordering Mali. It consists of the township Tilabéri and the rural communities Anzourou, Bibiyergou, Dessa, Inatès, Kourteye, Sakoïra and Zinder. The eponymous capital of the department is Tilabéri.

History

After independence in 1960, Niger's territory into 32 districts ( circonscriptions ) was divided. One of them was the district Tilabéri. 1964 was divided into seven administrative reform Niger departments, the predecessor of the later regions, and 32 arrondissements, the predecessor of the later departments. As part of the district Tilabéri was converted to the district Tilabéri. Moutari Moussa, later president of the National Assembly, presided from 1985 to 1987 as a sub- prefect of the arrondissement. In 1998, the former arrondissements of Niger were raised to departments, each headed by an appointed Council of Ministers is prefect. The structure of the department in communities exists since the year 2002. Previously, it consisted of the urban center Tilabéri and the cantons Tilabéri / Sakoïra, Anzourou, Ayorou, Dessa, Kourteye / Sansani Haoussa and Zinder. 2011 Ayérou was dissolved as a separate department from the Department Tilabéri. The 2013 appointed Prefect of Tilabéri is Sadou Oumarou.

Population

The Department has Tilabéri 2012 226.765 inhabitants according to the census. In the 2001 census, before the dissolution of Ayérou, there were 217 370 inhabitants in the census 1988 157 317 inhabitants in the census 1977 138 199 inhabitants.
