Tillicoultry

Tillicoultry ( Scottish Gaelic Tullow Cultraidh ) is a town in the Scottish Unitary Authority Clackmannanshire. It is about five kilometers northeast of Alloa and 13 km east-southeast of Dunblane located at the foot of the Ochil Hills and belongs to the Hill Foot's Villages. The Forth flows a few miles, a few hundred meters south of Devon. Tillicoultry is connected by the A91 to the road network. In 2001 Alva recorded 5400 inhabitants.

History

Historically, the textile production was an important industry in Tillicoultry and contributed significantly to its development. Here, the companies took advantage of the numerous mountain streams along the slopes of the Ochils to generate energy. So there tweed, tartan and knitwear have been produced since the 16th century. In the 1880s, 18 textile processing plants were counted in Tillicoultry. Today Tillicoultry is a commuter town.
