Tim Floyd

Tim Floyd ( born February 25, 1954) is an American basketball coach and is currently working at the University of Texas at El Paso. In 1998, he took over the head coaching job with the Chicago Bulls after Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman left the team and thus inherited Phil Jackson.

Personal

Floyd was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1954. He first attended the University of Southern Mississippi, then moved on, however, to the Louisiana Tech University, where he received an athletic scholarship. There he completed his studies in 1977.

Floyd is married and has one daughter.

Coaching career

Floyd began his career as an assistant coach at the University of Texas at El Paso under the head coach and Hall of Famer Don Haskins. During this time, the University won the title four times in the Western Athletic Conference. In addition, it was three times in a row (1984-1986) in the NCAA Tournament and also invited three times to the NIT.

University of Idaho

His first stop as head coach was the University of Idaho. There he followed Bill Trumbo, who had always ended in his three years as head coach the season in last place in the Big Sky Conference. Floyd succeeded in his first year to break this losing streak and on a positive note to end the season ( 16 wins, 14 defeats). His second season he finished already on the second place in the Big Sky Conference.

University of New Orleans

In his six years as head coach at the University of New Orleans Floyd reached a record of 127 wins and 58 defeats. During this time he participated three times in the NIT and NCAA Tournament twice, but came out only in 1990 ( NIT quarterfinals ) and 1994 (Second Round NIT) on the first round.

Iowa State

In May 1994, Floyd took over the head coaching job at Iowa State University. There he came in four years to a record of 81 wins and 49 defeats.

In his first year Floyd reach 23 wins, a mark which had previously reached yet by any coach at Iowa State. Led by the later NBA player Fred Hoiberg, the team reached the second round of the NCAA tournaments. The following year, Floyd improved the balance even at 24 wins and won the Big Eight Conference. In the NCAA Tournament would retire while again in the second round out, but Floyd was in the election for "Coach of the Year" to second place.

In the season 1996/97 Floyd won 22 games and reached with his team for the first time in 11 years again the third round of the NCAA tournaments. There they lost after extra time against UCLA.

In his last season in Iowa, the team won only twelve games and missed the finals. Floyd then left the university. As a consequence, the two later NBA player Nick Collison and Kirk Hinrich attracted to play their commitment for the Iowa State University back.

Chicago Bulls

After Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and head coach Phil Jackson left the Chicago Bulls in the summer of 1998, this Floyd hired for the reconstruction. But Floyd did not succeed due to the team on track. In any season, his team won more than 17 games. After starting in the 2001/ 02 season with a record of 4 wins and 21 defeats, Floyd came on December 24, 2001 by his post.

New Orleans

In the 2003 / 04 season, Floyd coached the NBA team the New Orleans Hornets. Although the team had to act the second half of the season without their star player Jamal Mashburn, Floyd reached a record of 41 wins, 41 defeats and reached the playoffs. There, however, they lost in seven games against the Miami Heat. Then Floyd was dismissed.

University of Southern California

Early 2005, Floyd was introduced as head coach of the University of Southern California. Actually, the university had already committed Rick Majerus, but this had already been withdrawn five days later his promise.

Floyd reached a record of 85 wins and 50 defeats. However, his 21 victories were disallowed in the 2007/ 08 season, as he is said to have illegally paid money to OJ Mayo to commit to his college. His greatest success was reaching the third round of the NCAA tournaments in 2007.

After several key players opted for a direct change in the NBA and the allegations regarding the obligation OJ Mayo came up, Floyd resigned in the summer of 2009.

In spring 2010, Floyd signed as head coach at the University of Texas at El Paso.
