Tiny Sandford

Stanley J. " Tiny" Sandford ( born February 26, 1894 in Osage, Iowa; † 29 October 1961, in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actor.

Life and career

Stanley Sandford first worked in the theater and began around 1910 with acting in film productions. At first, he played at Mack Sennett. He chose the artist name Tiny (German: tiny), where the name was chosen rather ironic: In truth, Sandford was almost two meters tall and weighed about 150 pounds. In the silent era he played in The Gold Rush ( 1925) with Charlie Chaplin, who was one of his best friends. He was mostly used because of its great physique as a policeman, bouncer or bat in comedies. Besides Chaplin Sandford was also with Laurel and Hardy in two dozen films before the camera. So he needs to clarify in the large business as a police officer is a dispute between the comedians and James Finlayson. Occasionally, however, he also appeared in dramas. In 1936, he played in modern times, where Sandford " Big Bill " works as a strong worker next to the clumsy Chaplin. At that time, his film roles were always insignificant and small.

In 1940 he retired after nearly 150 films from the drama business, although he was only in his forties. He was married and had two children. Sandford died in 1961 at the age of 67 years.
