Todmorden

Todmorden is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale the English county of West Yorkshire. She had a total of 14,941 inhabitants in 2001 according to census.

The River Calder divides them on the two traditional counties of England Lancashire and Yorkshire. From 1888, the city was, however, managed for practical reasons by the West Riding of Yorkshire, and from 1974 to 1986 was administered by Todmorden West Yorkshire County Council. Since its abolition is the supreme authority, the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale. Since the main part Todmordens is on the north or west side of the Calder and also the post office marked " Lancashire " is used, the citizens of this county feel more belonging.

The economic decline of the once important cloth industry has meant that it now serves primarily as a commuter suburb for the surrounding major cities of Manchester, Leeds and Bradford. Todmorden is twinned with Bramsche in the district of Osnabrück.
