Tom Evenson

Tom Evenson (actually Thomas Evenson, born January 9, 1910 in Manchester, † 28 November 1997) was a British long-distance runners and obstacle.

1930 and 1932 he won the Nations of the Cross, and in 1933 he became the national champion in cross-country running.

On the track he won at the British Empire Games, starting for England, 1930 in Hamilton Bronze over six miles and 1934 in London silver over two miles obstacle. Also over two miles obstacle he was in 1931, 1932 and 1936 British champion.

He twice competed at the Olympics, each over 3,000 m steeplechase. 1932 in Los Angeles, he won in a race that was actually about 3460 m due to an error by the lap counter, the silver medal, and in Berlin in 1936 he divorced in the run- off.

Tom Evenson started for the Salford Harriers.
