Tom Koivisto

Tom Koivisto ( born June 4, 1974 in Turku ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since 2010 in Tingsryds AIF in the HockeyAllsvenskan under contract.

Career

Tom Koivisto began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior section of TPS Turku for the first team he Kiekko -67 Turku, he was from 1992, two and a half years in the SM- liiga and for their farm team in the same period in the second class I divisioona active. During this period, he was with his team in the 1992/93 season for the first time Finnish champion and 1994 runner-up. Over the 1994/95 season the defender moved to TPS ' League rivals HPK Hämeenlinna, for whom he played a total of four and a half years. He then rose from 1999 to 2002 in Jokerit Helsinki under contract. With the capital club in 2000 he was first runner-up and in the 2001/ 02 season finally master. In the master year he was elected to the All-Star team the SM- liiga and got the Pekka - Rautakallio Trophy as the league 's best defender.

In 2002 NHL Entry Draft Koivisto was selected in the eighth round as total 253 players from the St. Louis Blues. In his only season in the National Hockey League, the 2002/03 season, he scored in 22 games for the St. Louis Blues a total of two goals and four assists. In parallel, he played for their farm team Worcester IceCats mainly in the American Hockey League. In the following season, the Finnish national team played exclusively for Worcester, then transferred him the Blues on March 9, 2004 on the Phoenix Coyotes. From 2008 to 2010 Koivisto stood for Jokerit Helsinki SM- liiga in on the ice. He then signed a contract with the Swedish Club Tingsryds AIF from the HockeyAllsvenskan, the Swedish second division.

Internationally

For Finland Koivisto took at junior level at the European Junior Championships in 1992 and the Junior World Championships in 1993 and 1994 in part. In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the 2002 World Cup, and in 2005 at the Euro Hockey Tour.
