Tom Smith (make-up artist)

Tom Smith ( born August 15, 1920 United Kingdom, † April 3, 2009 in the UK) was a British artist who ever nominated once for an Academy Award, a Saturn Award and a British Academy Film Award ( BAFTA ) for Best Makeup had.

Life

Smith began his career as a makeup artist in the film industry in 1950 with Double the College ( The Happiest Days of Your Life ) by Frank Launder with Alastair Sim, Margaret Rutherford and Guy Middleton. Throughout his career lasted until 1988, he contributed to the production of 56 films, particularly in many horror films, the film production company Hammer.

At the Academy Awards in 1983, Smith was nominated for the Oscar for best makeup, and indeed for the biopic Gandhi ( 1982) by Richard Attenborough with Ben Kingsley as Mahatma Gandhi Candice Bergen as Margaret Bourke-White and Edward Fox in the role of General Reginald Dyer. At the same time he was nominated in 1983 Award for the best mask for this film for the British Academy Film.

1985 Smith was for along with Gary Liddiard from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1984) by Steven Spielberg, starring Harrison Ford, Kate Capshaw and Amrish Puri Saturn Award for Best Make-up nominated.
