Torsten Lindberg

Torsten Gustav Adolf Lindberg ( born April 14, 1917 in Nässjö; † August 31, 2009 in Malmö) was a Swedish national football player and coach. The goalkeeper won six league titles with the Swedish national team Olympic gold and at club level with IFK Norrköping as Active. As a coach Djurgårdens IF he added to his collection of titles added two more championships.

Career

Playing career

Lindberg began in 1934 his football career as a goalkeeper for Husqvarna IF in Division II in 1937, he went to IK Tord before he held the 23 -year-old joined IFK Norrköping in the Allsvenskan 1940. With his new club, he established himself as a regular player in goal. On the side of Birger Rosengren, Knut Nordahl and Lennart Wigren, he led the team in the season 1942/43, the most successful period of the club one, as was first won in the club's history the von Rosen's Cup for the Swedish Championship. Lindberg also starred as a young table tennis at Rumlaborgs BTK and participated for the club at regional championships.

Coaching career

After his retirement Lindberg moved to the dugout. Initially, he worked 1953-1954 as manager of IFK Norrköping. Later he trained, among others, Motala AIF and IFK Stockholm, Djurgårdens IF, IK Sirius, AIK and Väsby IK. With Djurgårdens IF for the seasons 1964 and 1966 he succeeded each winning the Swedish championship title. In parallel, he worked 1958-1965 with the Swedish national team. As an assistant to George Raynor, the supervisor of his time members appointed by a selection committee national team, he was with the team in the World Cup finals in 1958 vice world champion in their own country.
