Toyama Prefecture

The Toyama Prefecture (Japanese富山 県, Toyama - ken) is a prefecture of Japan. It is located in the Chūbu region on the island of Honshu. Seat of the prefectural government is Toyama.

Lakes, gorges and high mountains dominate the picture of Toyama Prefecture.

History

At the headwaters of the river Shokawa is one of those remote areas which were allegedly colonized by the Taira, after they were defeated at the Battle of Dannoura in 1185 to flee.

In the 1950s, here also joined the Itai - Itai disease ( chronic cadmium poisoning).

Governor of Toyama is in its third term of office Takakazu Ishii, which was 2004, 2008 and 2012, selected as Allparteienkandidat each against only a CPY - supported rival candidates.
