Toyama Prefecture

The Toyama Prefecture (Japanese富山 県, Toyama - ken) is a prefecture of Japan. It is located in the Chūbu region on the island of Honshu. Seat of the prefectural government is Toyama.

Lakes, gorges and high mountains dominate the picture of Toyama Prefecture.

History

At the headwaters of the river Shokawa is one of those remote areas which were allegedly colonized by the Taira, after they were defeated at the Battle of Dannoura in 1185 to flee.

In the 1950s, here also joined the Itai - Itai disease ( chronic cadmium poisoning).

Governor of Toyama is in its third term of office Takakazu Ishii, which was 2004, 2008 and 2012, selected as Allparteienkandidat each against only a CPY - supported rival candidates. In Parliament, the Liberal Democratic Party was in the elections of 2011, 28 of the 40 seats held by a two-thirds majority, the Democratic Party won four, the Social Democratic Party three seats.

In the predominantly rural prefecture of the Liberal Democratic Party is strong: all directly elected representatives in the national parliament - three in the House of Representatives, one each by-election in the council house - are after the parliamentary elections in 2010, 2012 and 2013 Liberal Democrats, namely:
