The treene ( Low German Treen, Danish: TRENEN; naming see Treia ) is in the Schleswig region of the Land Schleswig -Holstein, a right tributary of the Eider. The treene belongs to the river basin Eider.

Geology

The treene originated about 12,000 years before the end of the Weichsel ice age melt water from the effluent. At the time covered glacier today's young moraine landscape. The water currents that led significant amounts of sand with it, drained in a westerly direction, the Schleswig -Holstein hills. On the eastern edge of Schleswig 's Geest, the flow direction changed to south.

Course

The Bondenau (14 km long) and the Kiel jam ( 11 km long ) are the two sources of treene. The Bondenau out at a level of about 60 m above sea level / NN near Mohr church west of the North Sea - Baltic Sea watershed. The keel Jam is a drain of Winderatter Lake which lies east of Ausacker. The two source currents accumulate in Treßsee at Großsolt. Here the treene which opens after a length of 95 km at Friedrichstadt via a lock factory in the Eider begins.

The east side of Treenetals - between Treia and Friedrichstadt - part of the landscape Stapelholm, the western side of the territory of Schwabstedter Geest. Originally the valley of Treia extended southward to the Stapelholmer ridge and then westwards to eiderstedt Peninsula.

At the Second Marcellus of the year 1362 the sea of the place Uelvesbüll in the joke word -Lund Berger sand wall collapsed north-east, creating a connection between Hever and Eider was born. This compound was named Norder Eider. In the context of land reclamation in the following centuries Everschop grew again with the Harden Utholm and eiderstedt the peninsula together, making the Norder Eider disappeared.

The Eider- Treene worry lowlands is a sanctuary for migratory birds, in particular for white storks at Bergenhusen. In Schwabstedt a river bathing establishment exists; from there can be driven with pleasure boats treene the muzzle upward.

Catchment area

The catchment area of treene has an area of 797 km ² and a lowland area of 76 km ². The lowland area is able to accommodate, in addition 11 million cubic meters of water (as of 1987). The water management problems of this area are directly related to the Eider. The lower reaches of the treene had - at least until the inauguration of the Eider barrage in 1973 - the function of a catch basin for the tidal water. Prior to the south-east of Friedrichstadt was built from 1935 to 1937 Eiderabdämmung Nordfeld already brought better protection against storm surges.

Water

Around 1460 the dike construction began on the east bank of the lower and middle treene with the 1,5 km long dike at the Norder Stapeler march. This was followed - piecemeal - the portions of the headland Seebuell at the river mouth over the Mildter polder, the Sether North Field, the Osterfelder polder and the Norder Stapeler Westermarsch.

Unbedeicht was finally only the watts and meadows on the eastern shore of the treene, from the new river mouth on Seebuell to Mildter polder. Incomplete was the dike line along the middle reaches of the treene, on the east side of the Schwabstedter Geest. There were only a couple of dykes section.

Before the damming of treene the outflow had to be redefined. To do this, initially built a dike, from the southern tip of Oldekoogs over Seebuell of time, to about half the length in the direction Saxfähre. Four locks (each 2, oo x 1.80 m) were built into the dike. Starting from the proposed dam of treene created two ditches, the forked at half the length, so that eventually each of the four trenches finally reached one of the locks. This drainage is allowed to regulate. The continuations of the trenches beyond the gates, led to the Eider.

Located in the march and Seebuell called surface on which Duke Frederick III. of Schleswig- Gottorp in 1621 was founded Friedrichstadt, was created in 1573 by the arranged by Adolf von Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp damming the treene.

To this end, they built another connection dike, now in a straight line from south to Koldenbüttel at the western end of the newly built dike sluice. At the junction between the dike / treene the river bed was then filled with a mighty dam; it was a few hundred years later, the Friedrichstädter station. Finally, the work was completed with further extension of the dike sluice westward to the dike connection with Saxfähre. The previous artificial Treenemündung was canceled so that Eiderdeich line closed. Behind the dike of Freesenkoog arose. The Treeneabdämmung of 1573/74 was successful, but the problem remained the single flood.

The Norder Stapeler residents ventured a self-help attempt the construction of a relief sewer from the treene for concern. At the direction of the country's domination they had to give back the commenced without permission channel. However, the failed attempt brought a relief channel in the Dörpstedter lowlands. The graft became known as Hollingstedter ditch, however, has existed twenty-five years:

Duke Friedrich III. let the Hollingstedter graft fill up again: In order to use the canals in Friedrichstadt, namely, a higher flow water level had to be guaranteed. And in order to achieve an even higher level, the outflow of Rheider Au with a new graft was additionally now moved from the previous outflow in the custody area in the treene. For the high water level in Friedrichstädter port storage arrangements have been negotiated. After many conflicts Duke Friedrich III issued. the Stapelholmer dike order of 1625th

The establishment of water and soil Verbändee and the founding of the Eider Association brought new water management services such as the application of polders, straightening of the river bed and defuse the river bends.

Species

In Friedrichstadt different types of fish, including eel, ide, trout, bream, perch, pike, carp, roach, catfish and walleye. Other species often occurring are the two entrained and not originally occurring in Europe cancers Chinese mitten crab and American crayfish.
