The individual sections went into operation as follows:

Rolling stock

Former

All previously discarded Lucerne trolleybuses were high-floor cars. The two cars 226 and 227 were made in 1980 after its phasing in the new numbers 206 and 207 until 1991 at the Trolleybus Schaffhausen in use. Cars 252 and 253 were evaluated for their decommissioning to driving school cars, the former is still used as such was used during the latter scrapped due to a defect in mid-June 2011. Car 280 now serves as Enteisungswagen.

Today

The regular trolleybus fleet of VBL has 23 solo, 26 joint and three double articulated cars, the former are an additional 16 trailers available. The trolleybus trolleybus Lausanne Lucerne is next to the one is to be found by the world's only two networks in which this form of operation.

Towing a trailer

Because transport company Lucerne met with in the rush hours, especially on Line 1 to Kriens repeatedly to capacity limits, we examined the mid-1990s the use of double- articulated cars, double-decker cars or trailers. To this end, among other things, tests were conducted with a Van Hool AGG 300. However, a related procurement would have been very costly, also cyclists would have been at risk when overtaking and the double -pivot system could only accommodate 25 people more than regular joint trolleys.

Analogous to Lausanne, it was decided, therefore, also in Lucerne for the procurement niederfluriger trailer. This happened at a time when all other except Lausanne Swiss trolleybus had already abolished their followers. In this way, especially the then relatively young solo trolleys of the type BT could be 5-25 continue to be used in Lucerne. After the City Council approved a loan of 25,000 Swiss francs for the reconstruction of the intended for towing carriage 270, could be started with the trailer test drives in March 1996. The regular trailer operation finally began on 17 August 1998 and equipped for towing a trailer, the 19 still held by BT 5-25 remaining with the numbers 260-268 and 270-279.

Volvo autotowers

The older tower car with the internal number 7 comes mainly in the depot area for use, while the newer one is used throughout the network.
