Trolleybuses in St. Gallen

The trolleybus St. Gallen is the trolleybus system of the Swiss city of St. Gallen. Operate the transport authority of the city of St. Gallen ( VBSG ) - in addition to various bus lines - four lines electrically, who meet all at St Gallen. The total network length is 22.6 kilometers.

History

The trolleybus St. Gallen replaced in the 1950s, successive tram St. Gallen, the last tram ran on 30 September 1957, the single trolleybus route sections went into operation as follows.:

In the city the Trogenerbahn between the station and Brühltor wrong to date on the rails of the former tram and thus parallel to the trolleybus. Both share a common sub-station to the present day. The contact wire voltage is in the relevant section, as in the usual trolley, 600 volt direct current. In contrast, the Trogenerbahn travels on its remaining distance of 1000 Volts DC.

In Riethüsli, the end point of the line 5, further, there is a possibility of transition between trolley and the rail line to St. Gallen- Appenzell. Use both there for a length of approximately 300 meters, a common contact wire suspension, but are electrically insulated from each other.

The line number 4 has only existed since 9 December 2007. Previously the line had one from 1991 and three from 1996, even four different terminals.

Current inventory

The trolleybus St. Gallen stand together 25 vehicles available, of which a maximum of 21 are required simultaneously. Among them are 17 articulated cars and eight double- articulated cars, all of which are low-floor:

The original two-piece and high-floor articulated cars with the number 155 in this case represents a special feature, since it was completed 14 years after its commissioning by a low-floor second follower. At that time, changed the type designation of BGT 5-25 in BGGT 5-25. It was originally planned to rebuild eight or nine other cars of this type so. Due to technical problems with the prototype, it was decided as an alternative to procurement of seven brand new double articulated cars 188 to 194

The double articulated cars cover a large part of the car outlet on lines 1 and 4. In contrast, only normal joint blocks are used on lines 3 and 5. At a trade show but also came on line 3 already double articulated cars used.

Former stock

Trailer operation ended in 1991 or in March 1992.

Delivery abroad

  • Twelve non- converted cars of the original series in 1992, including trailers sold to the Polish capital Warsaw, where the trolleybus then, however, as early as 1995 ended. One of them came then as a warm standby museum cars to Gdynia.
  • The rebuilt cars 142, 143, 144, 146 and 147 were delivered in 1992 to the trolleybus Valparaiso in Chile, where they were a few years in use, but now all are retired. 142 cars since 17 November 2008 where it serves as a waiting room and souvenir sales outlet at the terminus Plaza Barón.
  • Nine cars of the GT 560/620-25 gave the VBSG in the years 2008 and 2009 from the Bulgarian Plovdiv.
  • The cars of the type BGT 5-25 were sold in 2010 to the trolleybus Sarajevo in Bosnia - Herzegovina.
