Trolleybuses in Lugano

The trolleybus Lugano, Italian filoviaria rete di Lugano, was the trolley system of the Swiss city of Lugano. The transport company Azienda Comunale dei Trasporti della Città di Lugano ( ACTL ), known until 1969 Azienda Comunale del Traffico (ACT ), operating it between 1954 and 2001. The last year and a half was under the leadership of the 1 January 2000 the newly founded public- legal corporation Trasporti Public Gardens Lugano SA, short TPL. The first trolleybus replaced until 1959 successively opened in 1896 in Lugano Tramway, in 1975 to 1981, the network was expanded considerably. Nevertheless, the electric traction was replaced about two decades later by buses and the catenary completely degraded within a year up to the summer of 2002.

History

The trolleybus Lugano was one of the last trolleybus which were opened in Switzerland. According to him, only followed the trolley - Vevey Villeneuve (1957 ) and the trolleybus Schaffhausen ( 1966).
