Tunç Hamarat

Tunç Hamarat (born 1 December 1946 in Istanbul) is an Austrian chess player of Turkish descent. He is a World Champion in correspondence chess.

After studying physics in Ankara in 1972 he came to Vienna. Since 1994 he has Austrian citizenship.

Correspondence Chess

Since 1963 he plays correspondence chess. 1997 awarded him the World Correspondence Chess Federation ICCF the title of grandmaster in correspondence chess. In the 14 World Cup he came in 2002 to 4th place.

The started in 1999 and finished 16th in 2004 World Cup he won with 12 points from 16 matches. He had previously reached number five in 24 and 33 European Championship. By his own admission he has lost in his correspondence chess career still no game with the white pieces.

OTB

In OTB chess Hamarat reached a considerable playing strength. Before 1972, he participated three times in the championship of Turkey. After moving to Austria he played with the team from the chessclub Mödling in the state league.

Backgammon

Hamarat is also an excellent backgammon player. In 2003 he reached the semi-finals of the Austrian Championship.

Private

Hamarat working with an Austrian telecommunications provider. Besides chess Jazz Music is another hobby.
