Ture Rangström

Anders Johan Ture Rangström ( born November 30, 1884 in Stockholm, † May 11, 1947 ) was a Swedish composer, conductor, voice teacher and music critic.

Life

Rangström was briefly in the years 1903 and 1904 students of Johan Lindegren in Stockholm, in 1905 and 1906 by Hans Pfitzner in Berlin and took 1905-1907 singing lessons with Julius Hey. Nevertheless Rangström remained largely a self-taught musician, but received the National Composers Fellowship for the years 1910, 1911, 1913 and 1915. He also worked as a singing teacher and music critic of various newspapers in his hometown. From 1922 onwards came his activities as a conductor ( first in Gothenburg ) is added. From 1930 to 1936 he served as press attaché at the Royal Swedish Opera. He died in 1947 in a long -lasting laryngeal disease.

Especially emerged he is a composer of about 300 songs and is considered one of the most important Swedish composers in this field. In addition, he composed operas, symphonies and chamber music. Like his compatriot Kurt Atterberg Rangström went from a late romantic sound ideal and later found their way to garish and dissonant sound effects.
