Tursan

Tursan is a French wine region in the region Sud -Ouest, which has the status of a VDQS since 11 July 1958. Of the approximately 480 acres zugelassenener area about 280 hectares are currently planted; on average about 12,000 hectoliters of quality wine are produced. The production is divided to 65 percent on red wine and rosé wines and 35 percent white wine.

The production zone is located about 35 km southeast of Mont -de- Marsan and consists of 39 municipalities in the departments of Landes and two municipalities of the Gers department in the region of Sud -Adour at the foot of the Pyrenees, bordered by the country of Gascony and Béarn.

Varieties

  • The red wines are pressed from the vine Tannat (maximum 30-40%), Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. In addition, the variety is still Fer Servadou admitted.
  • The white wine is made from 30 to 90 percent from the grape Baroque, Gros Manseng and Sauvignon Blanc ( ~ 10%). In addition, the Petit Manseng varieties, Chenin Blanc are still in small quantities ( here called Cruchinet ), Claverie and Raffiat de Moncade admitted.
  • The rosé wine is made from Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

In general, the wines have little aging potential and should not be stored longer than two years.
