TVR Tasmin

TVR 280i

The TVR Tasmin or TVR 280i had a sports car, the TVR in Blackpool ( England) from 1981 to 1988 produced. As with all TVR, the drive was installed in a steel tube frame, but was longer and stiffer than the M Series. Most drive parts are from contemporary Ford Suspension and steering came from the Ford Cortina, only the rear wishbones were a TVR construction. The same transmission as the Ford Cortina and Ford Sierra were used. There was all-round disc brakes, the front of the Ford Granada. The engine was supplied by Ford Cologne, a 2.8 -liter V6 with Bosch fuel injection, the ( 110-118 kW ) yielded 150-160 bhp. For the first time at TVR there on request an automatic transmission. The styling designed by Oliver Winterbottom, who had previously drawn the Lotus Elite S2.

In addition to the V6 and a four-cylinder engine with 2.0 l displacement from the American Ford Pinto was to have. The result was called TVR 200i and was with under £ 10,000 - significantly cheaper than the regular 280i. Because of the weak engine (101 bhp / 75 kW) the car was not particularly successful. Overall, only 16 coupes and 45 convertibles this type originated.

1981 280i from a second series brought out, which was much more successful than the first series, and 1983, when the 350i came out, was dropped the name Tasmin and called the car only 280i. The Tasmin was the last TVR, which was exported to the USA and a contradictory label leaves him sometimes as Tasmin, sometimes appear as Tasmin 280i and sometimes referred to as 280i. Finally, a 280i Series II in 1987 exported. A number of reasons led to the withdrawal of TVR from the USA. This includes a confusing relationship with TVR representatives and the sales network there, warranty issues, and premiums for a reliable insurance of 160,000, - rose U.S. $ - U.S. $ to over 1,000,000.
