Udligenswil
Udligenswil ( Uedlige dialect ) is a municipality in the constituency Lucerne Land of the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland.

Geography
Udligenswil lies on a terrace on the southern slope of the Rooterberges at an altitude 522-839 m asl From the community area of 625 ha, 66.7 % are agricultural land, 22.7 % forest and woodland and 6.9 % settlement area.
Neighboring communities of Udligenswil are Adligenswil, Dierikon, Meier Kappel and Root (all in the Canton of Lucerne ) and Küssnacht in the canton of Schwyz.
Population
The population of Udligenswil long remained stable, fluctuating 1850-1965 between 500 and 600 inhabitants. The community was then a small farming village. Since 1970, there has sustained strong growth instead of ( 1970-2004: 205.0 %). The improved transport links and the location on a sunny terrace near the towns train and Lucerne are responsible.
Languages
Almost the entire population, ie 94.76 %, used as the main language German. Besides that, there Albanian and Serbo-Croatian at 1.30%, which is used by 0.97 % as the main language.
Religions - faiths
Earlier, the population of the village was exclusively Roman Catholic. Today ( as of 2000), the situation is different. The majority form the Roman Catholic Christians with 70.56 % of the population. Minorities make up 14.91 % Evangelical Protestant Christians, 7.35% religious affiliation, 1.84 % Muslim, 1.13 % members of Christian free churches and 0.54 % Orthodox Christians.
Origin and nationalities
In 2000, owned 93.08 % of residents (excluding dual citizen 87,95 %), the Swiss citizenship. The countries of origin of the largest immigrant groups are: Germany 1.73 % (including dual citizens 2.76% ), Serbia and Montenegro, 2.43% (2.43 %), Italy 0.22% (1.08 %) and Austria 0, 32% (0.86 %). Immigrants from the Netherlands, Portugal and the UK follow thereafter.

Economy
Until well after the Second World War Udligenswil was a farming village. With the construction of highways and train drew into closer reach Lucerne. In 2001 there were 31 farms, making this sector, only 24.9% of the working population offered an income. In industry and commerce 23.7 % of the workforce earned their money; service workers 51.5 %. Due to the strong population growth, the stream of commuters has increased. Udligenswil is accessible from public transport with the post bus line Luzern- Adligenswil - Udligenswil - Red Cross ( line 73). The motorway connection Küssnacht 4 km away.
History
Udligenswil is first mentioned in 1036 in a certificate of ownership to the Canons Beromunster as Uodelgoswilare. In the 13th century it came to Küssnacht and was from 1291 the Habsburgs. In 1380 it came under the protection and shield law and was sold by Joanna of Hunwyl 1406 Lucerne. 1565/66 the plague raged and snatched away the half of residents. 1725 Udligenswil aroused international attention because of Vogt and pastor Andermatt quarreled for a dance. In the so-called Udligenswilerhandel had to intervene even the Pope. Since 1798, the municipality ( 1803 Official ) Luzern is part of the district.
Train
In the school year 2003/2004 33 children attended the kindergarten Schürmatt. The primary school students ( 185 in the school year 2004/2005) is the first to sixth class the schoolhouse Bühlmatt for learning. From the 7th class Udligenswiler children attend school in the neighboring village Adligenswil.
