Coat of arms

Blazon: " Argent, three (1:2) green holly leaves, accompanied by seven green balls: top ever asked two pale -looking, organized in the sign of 1:2. "

The territory of today Uelsen part of Twente and was in the early 8th century mission area of Sts. Were Fried and Willibrord, which presumably also founded the Urpfarrkirche and baptistery in Uelsen. Therefore, the parish belonged to the diocese of Utrecht and was in 1131 at St. Peter the STFT in Utrecht transferred. A branch church was founded in Wilsum. In the High Middle Ages, the territory of Twente to Uelsen the Duchy of Lorraine belonged, came in the wake of the formation of territories in the hands of the Counts of Bentheim and remained part of the low Bentheim until the end of the Old Kingdom.

The seven churches Getelo, Gölenkamp, Hall, Itter Beck, Uelsen, Wheels and Wilsum joined 1974 Uelsen together, except where Wilsum all others belong to the parish Uelsen. The seven member communities are symbolized by the seven spheres, which themselves allude to the coat of arms of the Counts and Princes of Bentheim or the present county Bentheim: the golden Bentheim pennies in the red box.

Three green holly leaves in silver shield are in different position (2:1, 1:2 ) since the 17th century led by both the political and the ecclesiastical parish Uelsen (Coat of Arms Relief at City Hall, 1880; weathervanes on church tower and chancel roof, after 1683 ). They should be the coat of arms originating from Uelsen family of Niehoff, which probably most powerful member, John Niehoff, in the service of the Dutch East India Company, died on Madagascar. With the takeover of the coat of arms image by the congregation of the consonance of Uelsen and sleeves or sleeve crabs ( = holly, Ilex ) may have been stimulating in the game, although the 1177 as " Uelsten " traditional place name has nothing to do with " sleeves ", but according to Abel is a " settlement near the sources " to interpret.

Green and silver are the traditional colors of the old Uelsen municipality coat of arms.

The coat of arms was designed by heraldist Dr. Ulf -Dietrich grain.
