Unión Española

Unión Española S.A.D.P. is a Chilean football team from Independencia, Santiago de Chile.

The team was founded in 1897 by Spanish settlers and played, except for 1998 and 1999, always in the top football league in the country. So far Unión Española six times could the title in the Primera División decide for themselves, and are twice Cup winners. The greatest international success was achieved by the team with the finals of the 1975 Copa Libertadores.

In July 2008, the Spanish businessman and owner of the private IE University in Segovia, Jorge Segovia bought the club. For the equivalent of 1 million dollars he received all rights to the club.

Since 1922, all home games at the Estadio Santa Laura are discharged. In 2008, the venue was renovated and renamed Estadio Santa Laura SEK in Universidad.

CD Palestino and Audax Italiano, the longtime rival of Unión Española. The encounters between these three teams are also called Colonial Derby, as all three were founded by immigrants. Española is the second oldest División club in the Primera after the Santiago Wanderers.
