United Nations Security Council Resolution 1278

Resolution 1278 of the UN Security Council was a resolution adopted at its 4075th meeting, on 30 November 1999, without a vote of the United Nations Security Council. With the resolution, the Board accepted the resignation Stephen Schwebel, one of the judges at the International Court of Justice, 29 February 2000 note and stated that the vacant judgeship for the remainder of the term of the court must be neubesetzt and that, under Article 14 of the Articles of Association of the International Court of Justice, the Security Council the election date lays down.

The Security Council put so firmly that the United Nations General Assembly should elect a successor for Schwebel on 2 March 2000, and asked the members to nominate candidates.
