University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences ( UAMS also called ) is a government medical college in Little Rock, the capital of the U.S. state of Arkansas. At the University 2320 students are enrolled. It belongs to the University of Arkansas System. With 9400 employees, it is one of the largest employers in Arkansas.

History

The University was founded in 1879 as a so-called Medical School. In the 1950s, it was renamed the University of Arkansas Medical Center ( UAMC ). It was given its present name in 1980.
