University of Jos

The University of Jos ( University of Jos ) is a public university in the Nigerian city of Jos, capital of Plateau State. The official abbreviation is unijos.

The university offers various courses in medicine, law, pharmacy, natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology), social sciences, architecture and Studia humanitatis / Humanities.

History

Branch University

Today's University of Jos was founded as a branch of the University of Ibadan University in November 1971. In the following January 1972 the first students were included ( voruniversitäres level ). In October of 1973 the first Bachelor program began.

Independence

Two years later, the university was officially recognized by the military government of General Murtala Mohammed as its own university. First Vice-Rector of the University was Professor Gilbert Onuaguluch.

In October 1976, started the first courses of the independent University and 575 students began their university studies. The study was in the four existing faculties education, fine arts and social sciences, natural sciences and medicine. Postgraduate studies were added in 1977. In 1978, the Faculty of Fine Arts / Social Sciences was divided into two independent faculties and introduced a Faculty of Law and Environmental Sciences.

In 2003, the University of Jos received a grant in the amount of $ 2 million to set up a study own fundraising department.
