The University of Oklahoma ( also known as OU ) is a public university in Norman in the center of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. With 30 591 students enrolled, it is the largest university in Oklahoma. In addition to the main campus in Norman, there is a university hospital and the medical school in Oklahoma City, as well as a branch office in Tulsa with approximately 3,500 students. The university is particularly well known for their research and teaching in the fields of architecture, geology, history of science, meteorology, Native American Studies, oil engineering, law and dance.

History

The university was founded in 1890 as Norman Territorial University. In 1907 she was given its present name. Since 1970, every two years, is awarded by the university's magazine World Literature Today the Literature Prize Neustadt International Prize for Literature.

Sports

The sports team of the OU are the Oklahoma Sooners. The University is a member of the Big 12 Conference. Probably the most important sport in the Sooners is American Football. The home games of the football team will be held at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Other sports include basketball (men and women), baseball ( men), softball ( women), volleyball ( women), soccer ( women), golf ( men ), athletics (men and women), wrestling ( wrestling) and rowing ( women ).
