Unterdießen

Unterdießen is a community in the Upper Bavarian district of Landsberg am Lech and a member of the administrative community Fuchstal.

Geography

Unterdießen lies on the Roman Via Claudia. The Federal Highway 17 ( Romantic Road ) runs a few kilometers east of the hamlet Unterdießen between the hamlets Unterdießen and Dornstetten.

The community is located west of the Lech river on a gravel terrace about 2 km wide and is bounded to the east by a Altmoränenzug. Unterdießen consists of the districts top Unterdießen, Unterdießen and Dornstetten. With top and Unterdießen flows Wiesbach, Dornstetten lies to the east.

History

In Roman times, 50 AD pulled the Via Claudia was the first Roman road of feet coming through the village towards Augsburg. Along the road and the river Lech built the Roman legionaries their first settlements. From this time to report coins and shards, while the first recorded mention of the year 1126 comes.

The Lords of Diezzen gave the village its name. The name comes either from Old High Diezzen = Diuzan of an uplifting mountain, or from Middle High German roar, and thus identifies the location of a roaring creek. The root of the coat of arms Diezzen shows the golden plate, gezinnt obliquely, that was the basis for today's coat of arms.

Incorporations

On March 1, 1925, until then independent municipality Dornstetten was incorporated.

Attractions

Above the village rises the castle Unterdießen whose current building was erected by the family of the Freyberg until the late Middle Ages ( 1589 ).

The village is characterized by the three churches in the three districts: St. Nicholas (18th century) in Unterdießen, St. Rupert (15th century) in Upper Unterdießen and St. transition Wolf (15th century) in Dornstetten. Numerous old secular buildings determine the character of the place, eg: Old Mill in Dornstetten ( 1611), School House Upper Unterdießen ( 1857).

Museums

The Malura Museum in the village of Upper Diessen offers works by the Munich painter Oswald Malura annually changing art exhibitions. Malura came 1955 on his friend Franz Hauber to Upper Diessen, bought a plot of land and built up a studio, where he worked regularly and taught. In 1977 he acquired in Upper Mill Lane 2 Diessen am an old farmhouse, which he renovated and the museum and as a " place of encounter and cultural meeting place for like-minded in spirit" used. In this house today Malura Museum is housed.
