Urgup is a Turkish town with 20 061 inhabitants ( 2013) in the Central Anatolian province of Nevsehir. The eponymous district of Urgup has 35 028 inhabitants ( 2013).

The city is located about 20 kilometers east of the provincial capital of Nevsehir and a good 60 kilometers west of the city of Kayseri. The Turkish capital Ankara, situated approximately 260 kilometers to the north-west and the tourist resorts around Antalya, Side and Alanya are located approximately 400-500 kilometers south-west.

At an altitude of about 1150 meters above sea level Urgup is centrally located in the tourist region of Cappadocia. Near the town there are numerous attractions such as the washed-out from the volcanic rock fairy chimneys and other impressive geological formations, as well as the early Christian cave churches in Goreme Open Air Museum.

Urgup is therefore visited by numerous tourists who visit the tourist resorts on the Turkish Riviera for mostly two or three days with a bus tour of Cappadocia and stay at a hotel.
