Band History

Creation of the project " Vacuum"

At the very beginning was to mention Alexander Bard ( the inventor of the group Vacuum) and Anders Wollbeck future group Vacuum Cleaner - a group that should play "clean" music. But in the end they found the most suitable form of vacuum, as she pointed to the "scientific" and "progressive" style of music.

For the first time the name " Vacuum" "Glamour and Gold Glory" of the Swedish pop group Army of Lovers will be in 1994 on the cover of the album mentioned. The songs from this album ( "Lit De Parade", "Shine Like A Star " ) were produced by vacuum, although the group itself did not exist. It consisted of two members - Alexander Bard and Anders Wollbeck. They wrote songs for Army of Lovers. But later they stopped it and decided something new, Aesthetic and Scientific to create. However, there was a problem: they had no musicians for her project " Vacuum". The musicians who sing live and play could. As Alexander and Anders did not have time to search, the group Army of Lovers used intended for Vacuum songs. The songs were recorded with a guest vocalist Vasa of Big Money and were a hit, both in Sweden and abroad. In the future, Vasa makes alias Lars- Yngve Johansson at Vacuum with by such as "Illuminati" writes songs.

Replenishment of the band

The official birth of the group Vacuum is autumn 1996. Exactly at this time left Alexander Bard his group Army of Lovers and went in search of the other band members. In a club at a party, he met Mattias Lindblom, who probably played with his band called " Ceycamore Leaves". The strong voice of Mattias Alexander fascinated. He invited him into the studio and then he " stole " him from his group " Ceycamore Leaves", which was ready to sign a contract with a label. Mattias joined Vacuum.

Then he met Marina Schiptjenko on a television show. After speaking with Marina he found it just right for his project " Vacuum" because they had played synthesizer about 15 years in his band called " Page ". The last member of the band entered. And so the group Vacuum filled, which began to work together with other Wollbeck.

1997 debut album from Vacuum

1996, before the album was released, the first single " I Breathe " came out. This Vacuum landed a hit in Sweden and Europe. The video for the song " I Breathe " was named the best video of 1997. The famous Swedish television channels such as ZTV, TV4 and TV3 showed the video to their music programs and Vacuum was happy to be invited to the interviews.

February 14, 1997 Vacuums comes first album under the name "The Plutonium Cathedral". In the album an orchestral arrangement is used and Mattias singing with his powerful operatic voice. The musical style has the elements of synth pop and New Wave.

The popularity of the group took. There were many live concerts of Vacuum. On the scene, they moved almost not at all, they followed a minimalist concept. This concept should also have a certain look of the band members and that's why they invited a designer from London. He should give them this look: stylish black dress, long black nails and makeup.

May 20, 1997 came the second single, " Pride In My Religion " out of the album "The Plutonium Cathedral". This single was very successful for Vacuum and the band went on its first European tour.

Vacuum the Internet

1997-1998 appeared the first websites on Vacuum. The first, frequently updated website, the news announced on Vacuum, was a mixed "Army of Lovers -Vacuum " page of David Haglund. Mid-spring 1998 the Company Tralala official Vacuum mailing list, which was later renamed " VacuumNet ". The administrator was David Haglund. Then he started the Vacuum Webring. David played a major role in the promotion of the band on the Internet.

1998 sophomore album from Vacuum

In 1998, the single " Tonnes Of Attraction " and Vacuum promised the fans to release a new, second album. During this period Vacuum was very successful in Italy. There the song " Tin Soldiers " from the first album "The Plutonium Cathedral" was released on the CD sampler for the radio stations. In February Vacuum unveiled the new song " Satyricon " from the second album. A month later, a maxi - single of " Tonnes Of Attraction " was released, but the release of the album was still moved for several reasons.

On MTV Vacuums ran video for the song " Tonnes Of Attraction " and it had a great success, so that the band was invited to participate in the SEMA (Swedish Electronic Music Awards ).

A few months later a new single "Let The Mountain Come To Me " came out. Then the band had a tour of Eastern Europe. In May 1998 Vacuum came to Moscow and Ukraine, where her songs were at the top of the charts. After the tour they returned to Sweden to complete the second album " Seance At the chaebol ".

The recording of the album " Seance At The Chaebol " took the band members a lot of time. All songs should be re-recorded. This could be the explanation for the delay of publication. Instead of the bonus tracks " Science Of The Sacred " a new song " Icaros " was recorded. A big influence on the album had Vacuums made three new producers. There were Denniz Pop, Max Martin and Jacob Schulze ( the producer of Ace of Base, E-Type, and Backstreet Boys), who had missed the new album a pop sound. There was no more orchestral arrangement, but the profound texts have not changed.

During this period Vacuum got the first problem with Stockholm Records, Vacuums record label, so that the album " Seance At The Chaebol ", was not published, despite all efforts in Sweden. Only in a few countries ( such as Russia and Italy ), the first old version of this album was released (without bonus track " Icaros " and with old sound). The album had the most success in Russia, so that " Seance At The Chaebol " is often called " Russian album ". But the popularity in Eastern Europe had a different page for Vacuum. The band got acquainted with the copyright infringement.

Vacuum and copyright infringement

As a Vacuum in the Baltic countries went on tour, the band had no idea that the copyright infringements in Eastern Europe had a great success. The band members could not understand how they could be popular in the countries where the sale of their ( original ) CDs amounted to just 100 copies. Vacuum was in a difficult situation, especially in Russia, where about 8 million black copies were sold. This Vacuum was number 1 in Russia and Ukraine. However, they had a big problem with their financial resources.

Vacuum without Alexander Bard

1999 left Alexander Bard Vacuum. He was interested in his new project Alcazar and his book, so he had no time for Vacuum. However, Alexander was replaced by two guest players. With these people, the group visited again Russia and Ukraine. Although Mattias and Marina had claimed that Alexander was still pushing it were written any more of his songs for the band. Thus, there was a crisis with the cloth for Vacuum. The new alliance Wollbeck / Lindblom was only the beginning of their creation. So there was of Vacuum in 1999 only two new songs " Tears" and "My Melting Mood". And shortly after the departure of Alexander Bard, the band got problems with Stockholm Records.

Vacuum without Stockholm Records

1999 Stockholm Records canceled the contract with Vacuum. The reason was probably that the label did not see any perspective in Vacuum. The band was really only in Eastern Europe very well known and yet because of the black copy. The new promised " Swedish " version of " Seance At The Chaebol " ( " Culture Of Night" ) was produced by totally different companies (Epicentre, Cheiron, Sony) and was finally published only in Russia. This album was a compilation of the old hits with 2 newly revised and 3 new songs that were previously never officially published. Only one song, " My Melting Mood" was one of the co-operation between different Wollbeck and Mattias Lindblom.

A kind of separation of the band

Without a good promotion the album "Culture of Night" was not very successful. The band had no financial resources and no hope. Later, the fans got an official message from Mattias Lindblom and Marina on the VacuumNet page: " Dear friends! Heard from David, did you are talking about a split of VACUUM. Well, it's true in one sense! We have left Stockholm Records. Why? Well, it 's a long, quite boring story, but in short we disagreed on everything. That's a good reason! We are currently working on different projects and we have are not focusing on VACUUM right now except the live shows. But we want you to know, did we have NOT split up and you want to see more of us in the future. So We want to add, did if we had had a record -company, who Believed in our ideas and music, we would have continued, but as things turned out we had not. We have enjoyed big-time success in Russia and Marina and I have loved every second of it and we hope to perform live again soon. We will keep in touch with David in everything, did we do, so he wants to keep on feeding you info. Live gloriously, Mattias & Marina VACUUM crew "

There were no more live performances Vacuum, but there was a rumor about the solo career of Mattias Lindblom. No one knew what was going to happen with the band, but the company that believed in vacuum was found.

" Resurrection " of Vacuum

The company that believed in Vacuum, Subspace Communications was. The band already knew the label, because Marinas former band Page is in this label. The group began with Vacuum Subspace Communications to work. And after some time the fans got a new vacuum single.

"Starting ( Where The Story Ended ) "

May 6, 2002 the new single from Vacuum was "Starting ( Where The Story Ended ) officially released silence after 2 years. The band was now full of new ideas. Previously failed the album" Culture Of Night " was re-edited again and on 14. October 2002 in Sweden, the home of the band, and other Scandinavian countries published.

Vacuum was to some live shows ( Stockholm Pride 2002, Malmo gig ) invited. But now Mattias occurred without Marina. She had left the band and formed a new group Bodies Without Organs with Alexander Bard.

2004 saw the new single " Fools Like Me ", which had a completely different style. The texts were different in the old song, it was mainly about science ( " I Breathe ", " Nuclear India" ), religion ( "Pride In My reliogion " ), literature ( Ulysses ), but now described Vacuum more personal feelings. It was followed by the second single " They Do It " and then on 20 September 2004 came fourth album, " Your Whole Life Is Leading Up To This". June 6, 2005 came out another single, "The Void" from this album.

Two more singles were " Six Billion Voices" (2006) and which might give " Walk On The Sun" (2007) a taste of a new album. Both songs and more bonus tracks are included on the 2007 version of the album released in Germany "Your Whole Life Is Leading Up To This".

In April 2008 Vacuum began with the publication of some songs they had some years previously taken with the German pianist Michael Zlanabitnig in Austria. So far, the songs are, however, to hear only on the Internet. A more recent song (" Where Angels Belong" ), which implies a further cooperation with Zlanabitnig, was released in April 2009 on myspace. Perhaps an indication of the author -trailer Wollbeck / Lindblom the project " Vacuum" is considered important in the future want to.
