Val-de-Marne

The department of Val -de- Marne [ valdəmaʀn ] is a French department of atomic number 94, it is located in the Île- de -France region in the Paris region and mainly comprises the suburbs to the south and southeast of the capital. The department is named after the river Marne ( Marne Valley ).

Geography

The department of Val -de- Marne is bordered to the northwest by Paris, on the north by the department of Seine -Saint -Denis, on the east by the department of Seine -et- Marne, in the south by the department of Essonne and to the west by the department of Hauts -de -Seine.

Together with the Hauts -de -Seine, Seine- Saint- Denis Val -de- Marne forms a ring around the city of Paris, la petite couronne of the ( " small crown " ) is called.

History

The department was created in 1968 in the division of the departments of Seine and Seine- et- Oise into smaller departments. The order number 94 therefore differs from the alphabetical order.
