Vălenii de Munte

Vălenii de Munter [ vɘleni de munte ] is a town in Prahova County in the Great Wallachia in Romania.

Geographical location

Vălenii de Munter is located in the outer Carpathian Mountains, at the junction of the East in the Southern Carpathians in a named after the city of valley floor ( Depresiunea Vălenii de Munter ) on the river Teleajen. The county seat Ploieşti is situated about 30 km south of Vălenii de Munter away.

History

Vălenii de Munter was first documented in 1431. In 1433 the place is described as lying on a trade route between the Principality of Wallachia and Transylvania. From 1645 to 1781 was Vălenii de Munter county seat of Sacuieni, which was later divided between the districts of Prahova and Buzau. 1684, the village was first mentioned as a city. Since 1797 a school is occupied. The slightly offbeat location, the city lost some of its significance in the further course. In the years after the Revolution of 1989, two industrial parks have been created in which companies in the metal and woodworking, as well as the textile and canning have settled. An important role is also played by the tourism; the city is a recreational area for many residents of Bucharest and Ploiesti.

Population

1832 were registered with 2,590 inhabitants in Vălenii de Munter 518 households. Until the Second World War, the city slowly (1948 4.491 inhabitants) grew rapidly thereafter. By 1992, the population rose to 13,689. 2002 in Vălenii de Munter 13,309 inhabitants registered, including 13,207 Romanians and 77 Roma.

Traffic

Vălenii de Munter has a station on the railway Ploiesti Maneciu. Here, however, run to date ( 2008) only three pairs of trains daily. Of greater importance is the bus ( regular connections and more for Ploiesti and Predeal ). Through the city along the national road DN 1A runs from Bucharest to Săcele.
