Valerie Brisco-Hooks

Valerie Brisco ( Valerie Ann Brisco, Brisco - Hooks during their marriage; born July 6, 1960 in Greenwood, Mississippi) is a former American sprinter and triple Olympic champion.

Career

At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, she won the gold medal in the 200 -meter run before Florence Griffith Joyner (USA) and Merlene Ottey (JAM ). She also won the gold medal in the 400 -meter run before Chandra Cheese Borough (USA) and Kathy Smallwood - Cook ( GBR), as well as the team gold medal in the 4 × 400 - meter relay along with teammates Lillie Leatherwood, Sherri Howard and Chandra Cheese Borough.

At the 1987 World Championships she won the 4 × 400 m relay to third place. In addition to Marie -José Perec at the Games in 1996 she is the only woman who has won an Olympic event in both the 200 m and 400 m.

In 1981 she married the football player Alvin Hooks. Marriage, from which emerged a son, was divorced in 1987.
