Vânju Mare

Vânju Mare or Mare Vînju [ vɨnʒu mare ] is a small town in the district of Mehedinţi in Romania.

Location

Vânju Mare is situated in Lesser Wallachia, about 15 km east of the southward -flowing Danube here. The county town Drobeta Turnu Severin is located about 30 km north-west.

History

Archaeological discoveries in the region from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages. Population

Traffic

Vânju Mare has no rail connection. Through the city along the national road 56A runs from Craiova to Calafat. There are regular bus services to Drobeta Turnu Severin and Calafat.
