Varallo Sesia

Varallo ( Piedmontese varal ) is a municipality with 7434 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Vercelli (VC ), Region Piedmont. To distinguish the community from the village of Varallo (NO ) of the place is also known as Varallo Sesia because of its location on the river Sesia.

Geography

The place is in Valsesia at an altitude of 450 m above sea level. The municipality covers an area of 88 km ².

The municipality consists of the villages Crevola, Rocca Pietra, Morca, Balan Gera, Parone, Varallo Sesia and Morondo.

The neighboring municipalities are Borgosesia, Breia, Cesara, Civiasco, Cravagliana, Madonna del Sasso, Nonio, Quarna Sotto, Quarona, Sabbia, Valstrona and Vocca.

Culture and sights

Landmark of Varallo and also famous pilgrimage is the sacred mountain of Sacro Monte di Varallo (603 m), to commemorate the holy places ( Bethlehem, Calvary, Nazareth, etc.) of Palestine. It is a major tourist attraction and an important factor in the economy of the town.

In July, a regional fair, the Alpaà, in Varallo held at which showcase the businesses and communities of the Valsesia. In this context, a large fair is organized.
