Vars, Haute-Saône

Vars is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vars is located at an altitude of 223 m above sea level, 11 km north-northwest of Gray and about 43 km northeast of the city of Dijon (air line). The scattered village extends in the far west of the département, in the gently undulating countryside between the river valleys of the Saône in the east and Vingeanne in the west, in the Talniederung the Ruisseau des Écoulottes.

The area of ​​16.16 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau north of the plain of Gray. Neighboring communities of Vars are Champlitte and Écuelle in the north, Oyrières in the east, Auvet -et -la- Chapelotte in the south and Pouilly -sur -Vingeanne and Montigny -Mornay -Villeneuve -sur -Vingeanne in the West.

History

Numerous findings indicate that the municipality has been inhabited since the Gallo- Roman period. In addition, a burial ground was discovered from the Burgundian. The actual beginning of the colonization was the foundation of the Cistercian monastery Theuley in 1135th The monks reclaimed the area under cultivation and founded Gran different Gien, including those of Vars. Attractions

The church of Saint -André in Vars was built in 1750 and has a stucco altar from the 18th century.
