Varteres Samurgashev

Warteres Warteressowitsch Samurgaschew (Russian Вартерес Вартересович Самургашев, scientific transliteration Varteres Varteresovič Samurgašev; * September 13, 1979 in Rostov-on- Don ) is a former Russian wrestler. In Greco-Roman style in 2000 he was Olympic champion and two years later World Champion.

Career

Samurgaschew began in 1994 with the rings. Since 1995, he is trained in Rostov Sergei Sabejworota. His first title was won at the Samurgaschew Ringer 2000 European Championships in Moscow. There, he won the final of the spring weight, the weight class up to 63 kg, against the Swiss Beat Motzer 8-0.

At the 2000 Olympics in Sydney he eliminated in the preliminary round of the Olympic champion from 1996 Wlodzimierz Zawadzki and former world champion Şeref Eroğlu. In the final, he sat down in extra time 3-0 against Cuban Juan Luis Marén by and became Olympic champion.
