Vedène

Vedène is a commune with 10,619 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Vaucluse department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

History

The city was mentioned for the first time in 1105, on the occasion of the donation of Pons Rainoard, the landlord of the village, who handed over the moor of vedène to the canons of Avignon.

During the 14th century the fief often changed hands and fell into the hands of families Rainoard, Castello, Gaufridi, Coyrano, Rodulphi and Galliani (French Galléans ). The latter initially acquired the rights in 1352 for the fief, and eventually bought it in 1443 free.
