Veľká Fatra National Park

The National Park Velka Fatra (Slovak park Velka Fatra Národný ) is a Slovak national park in the north of the country. It extends along the main ridge of the eponymous Great Fatra. The 1973 established the conservation area was converted to the National Park on 1 March 2002, so it is with the National Park Slovak Karst to the latest of the nine Slovak national parks.

The seat of government is located in Vrútky.

Geography

The national park lies mostly in the political district Žilinský ( Okresy Martin, Ružomberok and Turčianské Teplice ). It covers the entire main ridge of the Great Fatra and separates the historic landscapes Turz and Liptau each other. Smaller parts of the national park are in Banskobystrický kraj ( Banská Bystrica Okres ), and Kraľovany extends the protection zone to a tiny part of Okres Dolny Kubin. The size of the core area is 403.71 km ² and is bounded approximately by the localities Ľubochňa, Liptovská Osada, Liptovské Revúce, Dolny Harmanec, Mošovce and Bela - Dulice. The protection zone is 261.32 km ², and also covers a small part of the boiler Turčianska kotlina and extends to the Waag and Ružomberok in the north. Overall, the park covers 665.03 km ².

The highest peak is 1,592 m with Ostredok nm Known valleys in the area of the national park are the Blatnická valley, the valley and the Gaderská Ľubochnianska Valley.

Flora and Fauna

Almost 90 % of the national park is covered with forests. There are represented by mixed forest ( beech and oak ) to the mountain pine vegetation zones. In remote areas prevail until today primeval conditions. By far the most common tree species are beech, followed by spruce, fir, pine and maple trees. In the National Park you can still find quite a lot of yew by European standards, eg in the valley above the village of Harmanec. The yew has been therefore chosen as a symbol of the National Park.

Endemic or rare plants in the National Park are Dianthus nitidus ( genus cloves), Cyclamen fatricum ( genus Cyclamen ), Slavic Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla Slavica ), Tatra fescue ( Festuca tatrica ), Carpathian Soldanelle ( Soldanella carpatica ) or Tatra Horst- sedge ( Carex sempervirens subsp. tatrorum ). Frequently, however, Daffodil Anemone are (Anemone narcissiflora ), globe flower (Trollius altissimus ), Vosges pansy ( Viola lutea), Red Orange hawkweed ( Pilosella aurantiaca ) to be found at the Meadows. On the peaks, rocks, slopes, etc. are among other gentians, primulas, edelweiss, Schöteriche to find.

In the national park is home to brown bears, lynx, red deer, roe deer, wolves and wild cats, find the good conditions of life in the great forests and the relatively little contact with nature. Caves provide good roosts for bats. On the rocks nests of golden eagle, peregrine falcon, raven and owl find.

Tourism

Consist addition to the option of nature walks and other attractions: the village Vlkolínec at Ružomberok is a good example of preserved folk architecture and since 1993 a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Well-known ski resorts are Malinné Brdo (also Malino Brdo ) at Ružomberok and Donovaly.
