Biele Karpaty Protected Landscape Area

The Protected Landscape Area Biele Karpaty (Slovak Biele Karpaty Chranena krajinná oblasť ) is a conservation area in the west of Slovakia, along the main ridge of the White Carpathians (Slovak Biele Karpaty). It was proclaimed in 1979 and changed the law in question in 2003. The area lies mainly in the political district of Trenčín Region ( Okresy Ilava, Myjava, Nové Mesto nad Váhom Púchov and Trenčín ), with smaller parts in Trnavský kraj ( Okresy Senica and Skalica ).

The seat of government is located in the town Nemšová. There is also a nature reserve, known as the White Carpathians on the Czech side.

Geography

The conservation area includes the Slovak side of the White Carpathians plus a small part of the highlands Myjavská pahorkatina. Geologically it is a Flyschgebirge.

About the main crest of the watershed between the Morava River in the west and in the east the Vah runs. However, here is an exception: By Springing the Flussanzapfung in Moravia Vlára belongs to the catchment area of Waag.

The highest elevation is lying on the border Velka Javorina (970 m nm).

Flora and Fauna

About two-thirds of the protected landscape area is covered by forest. In the deeper layers grow oak and hornbeam, higher book above. On the rocky slopes grow maples and ash trees. Chance of coniferous forests are found. Here Pannonian species overlap with the Carpathian. Orchids are stored here, with species such as spotted orchid or orchid Holubys. On private fields grow endangered plant species such as corn cockle, field buttercup or arable black cumin.

In the conservation area deer, roe deer and wild boar are relatively common nowadays. Large predators such as brown bears or lynxes are rare. More occurring in the mountains animal species such as the European Mantis, longicorn, Stag Beetle, Red Apollo, Northern crested newt, black stork, saker falcon, owl or wild cat.
